Turtle beach at Ras al Hadd

The beach at Ras al Hadd is a breeding ground for green sea turtles. Next to the beach, there are remains of the Royal Air Force airfield, part of a series of stocked landing grounds in Oman. The airport was an emergency landing ground before World War II.

Today the beach is shared between the turtles and a thriving fishing community.

We went to the beach in September 2019. Surprisingly, we could easily spot hundreds of turtle nests and their tracks. In the early morning hours, we could also see baby turtles trying to find their way to reach the sea.

The trip was organised by Muscat Adventures and Social Club Meetup group. Here is a short video and some photos from this trip.
